... and what I'm not.

These are really important notes, please read them carefully and return to them when necessary. If you have any questions, catch me in the Discord or in a job or page.

The intention of this game is for you to conceive of and build a character, creating (almost) all they are from your own imagination. However, Dragonfly Dreams is also a critique and complication of the traditional hatching structure the Pern fandom has refined. This means I will be withholding critical information about your egg from you, both as an exercise in escaping stereotypes and as a gift to you once this site ends its run.

What I will be giving you: (in other words, what I am not allowing you to create for yourself)

  • an image of your egg
  • a loose storyline, external to the clutch, that will impact its development
  • upon hatching, your dragonet’s color rank (green, blue, or brown)
  • upon hatching, an image of your dragonet
  • (solicited only) if you chose to not specify any of the traits listed below, you may ask for me to fill them in for you
What you will be creating or discovering:
  • your egg’s personality, including dreams, hopes, traits, flaws, and strengths
  • your dragonet’s name
  • the type of human your dragonet would prefer to impress to
  • the gender identity and pronouns of your dragonet
  • whether your dragonet will one day rise or chase, or both or neither
  • your dragonet’s stance on topics of unique interest to dragons
The second list is, obviously, not exhaustive. We will be hitting many stops in the two month run of this website and I’m not going to mark them all here.

Hey! Why only green, blue, or brown?
Pern games typically require a lot of player investment for (or outright ban) making bronze or gold dragons from scratch. Browns often have some investment required, but blue and green are often free. Since one of the goals of Dragonfly Dreams is to create a portable character, only the three chromatic ranks will be hatched.
