The primary focus of this site will be responding to prompts. Single-stage prompts will be most common, with the occasional multi-stage interactive prompt (basically an RP with an NPC/event). Most prompts will be written by me, though in later weeks there may be player-generated prompts.
Most prompts will feature two parts: a narrative or prose portion and a set of questions. The narrative portion is the meat of the prompt; the questions serve to guide your response if the narrative part of the prompt does not spark an immediate idea. In the first several weeks this will be especially important as the prompts are more philosophical; they get more narrative as time goes on.
The most important thing to recall about prompts is that they are individual. I cannot overstate the fact that, for a significant portion of this site’s run, your egg will not even be able to speak to the other eggs in the clutch. Even after your egg discovers language and other beings besides themself and their mother, individual prompts will continue to be the primary focus.
A prompt fill can be short or long, poetic or practical. Frequent "low effort" prompt fills will result in them not counting for activity purposes.
That said, the most meaningful experiences with characters come from their interactions with others. Once your eggs discover each other (week 3), you will be free to roleplay with one another. Sometimes, I will give prompts that partner up players or otherwise encourage cooperation in their response. Otherwise, you are free to plot among yourselves and make friendships and rivalries among your dragonets.
I very much hope you take advantage of every prompt or roleplay opportunity to quickly develop your dragonets. However, you must shares your scenes for it to “count,” though I will count stalled roleplays as activity for the publishing partner.
As stated in the main rules, compliments and encouragement of others’ writing is encouraged, but unsolicited critique and criticism is not. All levels of writing ability are welcome at Dragonfly Dreams, and I believe there is no wrong way to play this game... other than starting it and not finishing it.
If you drop off the site for the majority of the run, or only hit a quarter of the prompts, you will be hatching a dud, not a dragonet.
These triggers will always be tagged at the scene title:
Flightlust. Death. Injury.
Because this game has a very tight focus, I do not expect that triggering content will be common. However, it will occur -- your eggs will be exposed to (at least the concepts of) pain, death, sorrow, sexuality, and other sensitive subjects.
When such topics arise in prompts, they will be marked in the topic title. If you are uncomfortable responding, simply skip the prompt! Sensitive prompts like these will not count towards determining your activity.
If such topics arise in RP scenes, it is the poster’s responsibility to tag them appropriately. The poster will be accountable if they do not tag -- that is, I will not like having to remind you to tag, or if necessary, entirely delete your post.
