Dragonfly Dreams is an unusual game in several respects. I do consider it a writing game more than a roleplay -- the goal is more to learn and grow than to play, though I hope it won’t be boring!
The mission of Dragonfly Dreams is to be a short-run, character-development-based writing exercise and roleplay experience. We will explore a highly interesting facet of Dragonriders of Pern lore and the development of a (dragon!) character in a unique circumstance: while they are still in the egg. The site relies on the common Pern trope of having a dragon hatch basically as a mini adult, able to speak and reason, and explores the implications of this tradition. It is focused deeply and specifically on the individual development of each player’s dragonet from first cogency to hatching -- and because of this method it will be a prompt-based short-run game of only eight weeks.
Above all, it aims to complicate and recontextualize some of the assumptions common in Perndom. It will be a thought-provoking and hopefully inspiring exercise that leaves players with a new character and a sense of closure.
At the end of the game, every player will have built a new character for themselves that they will be able to take to other Pern games and play. (You are perfectly welcome to undragonify them to play them however you like, too!) Read more about game design decisions made to facilitate character portability here.
As a parting gift, I’ll be commissioning/soliciting a unique design for everyone’s dragonets (if they would like one).
