The world outside was more chaotic than he knew. Far more mindvoices were out here, unfiltered and overwhelming in their emotions. He blocked them out as best he could, trying to gain his bearings in this mental hurricane while huddled under the safety of his shell.
It took a while, but Jinth eventually put together enough of a pattern in the chaos around him to get a sense of what was wrong. A side effect of the earth falling down and forcing the clutch to a new location was the oldest Queen getting buried by rocks. An experience that she hadn’t chosen, obviously.
The chaos mind said Issrodeth would live, though how well wasn’t settled yet. The few times he could remember touching her mind, he found it filled with many layers, more than he could sense in Mother’s. Of course he might not be strong enough yet to really see into either mind and compare them properly, but he was getting stronger every day, so perhaps one day he would be able to do that easily.
Jinth concentrated some of his attention on learning more of how people interacted with each other and why. He studied more of how the minds around him focused on the Senior and everything she did, and decided he wouldn’t like being the center of that much attention. He rather liked staying by the walls and peoplewatching unnoticed by the rest. Better to gather information on what was really going on that way.
Advisor / spy could be a good job to have. He liked it.
