All right. Here he was...

Rioth wasn't as surprised as she'd thought she'd be by her lack of strong reaction of the arrival of who she now understood to be her biological father. Or that his thoughts were a lot like the others who busied themselves with colors and 'the way things were done.'

Nor could she muster anything like resentment or anger. Pertemarth loved her mother and that was that, and Rioth had enjoyed the feeling of that love above all. Flight and love were two different things, though they didn't have to be. And flight, love and siring didn't have to intersect, either.

She greeted him with a customary shout, one without the inflections that her mother and mate had earned, but as far as she was concerned it was respectful nevertheless.

No - what had surprised her was the pity that she had felt. Yuakajth's head was filled to bursting with propriety and the way-things-were...and that was all he ever knew. And perhaps, as he seemed to feel the current setup benefitted him - it would only be what he ever knew. He had no reason to question things at the top. He did not know what he did not know.

It was a very strange feeling, for someone as small as she to be so certain over this gargantuan bronze. But her father did not see, he did not listen, and he did not spend every day cozy and comfortable in the loving thoughts of her mother and her mate. He did not know to question.

And she couldn't fault him. If she hatched and she was a bronze or brown, she could even have fun with being his protege, he certainly seemed like an outgoing sort; perhaps that would be another way to caring for a clutch like she'd wanted. They could learn from one another - if he could understand that she was a queen regardless of her color.

She could enjoy his company - but she hoped she would never be like him.
