Rocranth screamed his name out for all to hear, and Sigil waited for anyone else to react.

Were they supposed to announce it like that? The word-that-means-me had lived in her heart for a while now, what she wanted others to say when they spoke to or of her. Xlyoth. It felt right, and that is all that mattered to her.

None of the ones with which she spoke regularly had offered a name yet. Had she decided hers early? Or was she just one of a group who’d kept it to themselves for a while to make sure of the rightness of it?

When next she chatted with her neighbors, she would give them the word so that they could call her by it, but she did not feel the need to shout it for all to hear. Those who knew her would know her name, and those she had not met yet would learn it when they met her. Perhaps the others would speak of her, and then when she met new ones they would be able to connect her word with her. Perhaps by then they would be out in the world.
