Challeanoth did not often think about mothers Shayled, outside of as a constant presence on the sands and as part of mother. The humans had been less interesting until recently, until the fact that they would soon have one of their own had truly struck her.

And perhaps, because of the way her thoughts drifted, it was little surprise when she became more aware of what Shayled was thinking about.

The woman was worried about not being good enough.

That felt like a reasonable concern.

But she wasn't alone, and she was aware of that, and as long as she remember that the others wanted to help, that she didn't have to do it alone, she'd be fine.

And as for a blue mother? She didn't really mean it, Challeanoth knew. It might be nice to just be part of the crowd, to be with your love without fuss, to be just blue. She never would have been just a blue, none of them would just be blue, they all would all be themselves, and the color of their hide wouldn't change that.
