Jjezreth listened quietly to the loud thoughts of Ertineth, considering his thoughts more that it considered most.

It wasn't his longing, his identity that caught Jjezreth's eye. It wasn't anything about Ertineth at all because it was the ideas that stuck out.

Many, many times Jjezreth had overheard thoughts of dragons judging other ranks. It had never heard anyone disparage their own rank. It hadn't realized it was possible to be dissatisfied with who you were.
It didn't understand why. What was stopping him from being who he (he? Eritneth's mind had he but he seemed to hold it like something ill-fit) actually was? Who was this Hy'n? Jjezreth had thought dragons were meant to love who they were bound to, although the fighting dragons from before made it seem as though not all humans loved their dragons.

It was confused. It didn't understand the reason for being a way and pretending to be some other way. It didn't understand wanting to be something while it was some other way and it didn't understand the logic behind it.

Jjezreth didn't know what it was or how to feel about it – but the idea of Ertineth and Hy'n was what stuck out.

It didn't know what would prompt it but it did know that it would have a human, and it would have a human one day soon. It would have to ensure it found a human that wouldn't try to force Jjezreth into any tiny, little, ill-fit boxes like where Jjezreth was stuck.
