To say that one was glad to hear Issrodeth’s voice, as soft and quiet as it was, would have been an understatement. This small collection of both known and unknown could be tolerated for the time being but… Myrcelleth wouldn’t pretend to understand, not even remotely. Why did this Flight mean that, suddenly, there was an expectation of leadership. How was Igith in the wrong for love, for choosing her person? He wouldn’t be able to pretend to understand even if he put all of his effort into it.

Colours, leaders - what did it all matter at all? Myrcelleth couldn’t help but sulk. It all seemed so complicated and what for? Why have a single leader? One person, dragon or human, cannot stop the earth from shaking. Cannot stop the world from caving in. What good were any of them then? At least with a group of people, there was a swarm of minds, of ideas like argosies swirling around a whirlpool. Many minds are better than one.

Still, Issrodeth commanded respect, Igith… maybe did as well, to an extent. And Mother believed this too. Why? Why did all of them feel that this was necessary at all? The Weyr, for the good of the Weyr, a Weyrleader. It seemed that all of the people Myrcelleth respected - the ones outside of the clutch, anyway - were thoroughly of the mind that this was the right way to be. It didn’t feel right, it didn’t seem right, but… if this was the game that they were playing, Myrcelleth would play by the rules, at least for now.

Weyrleaders… the ones looking after the Weyr and everyone in it. They need to be busy, Myrcelleth decided. They needed to make sure that everyone was alright, that nobody gets hurt. They needed to be kind, to be patient. They needed to be like Mother - but why was she simply not Weyrleader in that case? Why did she have to choose someone else?
