Patchwork is a medium-sized egg made of three distinct color pallets; a deep forest green base, a center layer of dark brown and gold geometric lines around the center, and a dark teal top – all connected by jagged red 'stitching'. These layers are entirely visual, however. Patchwork is incredibly smooth and glossy to the touch without any physical or textural change across individual layers.
The egg was light when it was laid and hardened before the growing dragonet within gained much mass. As a result the egg is narrow and rounded and can only stay upright when at least half buried, especially as Jjezreth – the dragon within Patchwork – has continued to grow. Even after the earthquake the only real change in Patchwork since being laid is some amount of minor scratching caused by sand.
Jjezreth itself is a simple creature. It isn't stupid, it just sees the world at large simple. And it is an it. Gender seems like an other people's problem thing and, as Jjezreth does with that what it does with all too-complicated problems, Jjezreth has opted out. It's flighty and does the best it can to avoid anything over complicated or negative, a trait that seems to have worsened after the trauma of the earthquake.
The trait that rings through Patchwork the most to outer minds is this uncanny choice to mimic other voices rather than form its own, and the constant demands for attention.
