Consuming things to survive sounded like a tedious way to live, but the way Mother was devouring that beast, a herdbeast, made it look marginally more appealing. She was taking chunks out of it like it was the only thing she wanted to be doing, even if her mind was much busier than it looked. Myrcelleth could relate on that front, always having a busy mind, even if he didn’t fully understand what her concerns were.

What did she mean by the idea that herdbeasts could simply… run out of stock? Could all living things run out of stock? What then? Would that not be really bad for everyone relying on those herdbeasts, not just those who eat them? How is it so complicated and why? This, at the very least, Myrcelleth understood to be good intentions, splitting the food to make sure it didn’t run out, but it all seemed so… difficult.

Are there not ways to produce more herdbeasts?

At least Mother seemed to enjoy the taste of the meal, that certainly was enough to get Myrcelleth itching to take their own bite.
