Mother curbs her own sweet anticipation of the kill, anticipation of the smell-feel-taste of the flesh between her teeth, of hunger sated -- but why? He asks why a lot now, whether he understands new insights or not, to the point that other clutch mates are starting to respond with really? and not again!

Why does she do this? Why?

He reaches for her again. Feels that sense of calculation-complexity and knows she is thinking about the future, or about a possible future. About ... he's struggling now with a new concept, or something he has seen before brought into more focus.

Mother thinks about things that might happen because of what she does. Then she kills the prey and eats it and enjoys it and he catches a sense of the crunching of bones, ripping of flesh, abandon and enjoyment. He picks up the fear then swift extinction of the creature's mind. Is neutral to that ... or ... not neutral, the kill is sweet too!
