Fill

Father does not always linger around the clutch. He comes to check, more than other bronzes but not so much as the golds, stays only if Mother asks, fills her spot when she's Away. Not so well, he is not the shining sun she is, but a presence for young mind to anchor themselves upon as they stretch and explore, reaching for something Diath is only slowly coming to understand.

It is, not so much an advantage as a difference it has to give to him over Pertemarth, that his interest seems to be in itself and the others more than Mother. A strange interest, with much thought of his own part in them. It doesn't understand the memories that flow across his mind, of races and catching, but stows them away as some relation to their creation. More it understands the thoughts of size and strength, the wonderings of what colors they will all be. A question so many of the minds outside have, and even the others too. Diath only wants to not be gold, so isolated and few, mayhaps instead blue or green for their numbers. (Father hopes some of them hatch as 'beautiful' greens, and it wonders what makes a green beautiful. Though, with as limited sight and experience as it has, it can't understand anything about the physical beauty of which he speaks.)

But more he thinks of bronze and brown. Of leaders for him to teach. Is that what bronzes and browns do? Diath had put together that bronzes ordered others around, from the thoughts of the golds and blue Pertemarth, but the addition of browns is new. It had known they were some strange thing between a blue and a bronze, but the positioning as leaders, as things to be taught by Father, is something else.

Golds tend to others. Maybe greens as well? But Bisk was such a strange mind, maybe she was different...

Bronzes and browns lead.

Blues and greens fight Thread.

But then, so do the bronzes and browns.

Are they the only ones that do multiple different things? Does making new things like it and the others count? What, then, do the blues and greens do besides fighting?

So many questions to roll about in Diath's mind- it carefully stacks them, making mental note to listen more closely to those outside in search of answers. As things were, it continued to listen in on Father's thoughts, so different from what it was used to, with new topics and new moods.

What more could it come to understand?
