Alaphiath was disappointed in their behavior, even if Gwillanth wasn't. Even if Mother hadn't heard Alaphiath panic, panic when she should have been helping the others calm the rest of the clutch during the earthquake. She should have been like Ilrioth and Rioth, trying to keep the others safe, not trying to escape like a silly creature with no sense at all and no care for the rest of the clutch. She'd failed at her responsibility as a clutch member.

But they could do better. They could be more like Gwillanth and take responsibility when it came upon them. They could start doing that now. Mother needed comfort.
