The shimmering Portoro - or Rioth - has felt like she's known what she wanted to be from a very early age. And that something is Gwyllanth.

Or at least - the idea of Gwillanth, those first few crucial glimpses of understanding of another presence, an elegant haven of love, cleverness and safety.

Rioth strives towards this idea and has a strong concept of beauty and pride that unconsciously reflects the size, dark backdrop and golden shimmers of the shell in which she is nestled. But this isn't always a shallow sense, as some might initially gather - to Rioth, everyone is beautiful, and she must nurture and protect that. This is an attitude that she's only beginning to suspect might not always align with her companions and superiors at the Weyr.

While she is not a gold, even if she's not willing to admit that she knows this yet, she's quick to the idea of creating and caring for dragons, and ensuring that they are loved. Aspects of the hierarchies outside can intrigue, but even at this young age, as far as she's able to tell - people only stick to them because they've always stuck to them and Rioth will not be afraid to challenge or push outside established norms if she believes it's for the betterment of more.

Her temperament is one that isn't necessarily for everyone and is one that can easily be misread for one not attuned to her. For her sweetness is sincere, it is not simplicity; her emoting is not a lack of control but rather a strong exertion of her control. She is very impulsive and demanding and has found very quickly that she has a BIG VOICE. She doesn't quite have the temperament to add any danger or malice behind her bossiness yet, and lacks the experience to add it - she simply wants things as hard as she can, and that makes them BIG. And when words fail to completely express her emotions, she’s found she can tame and spin the big voice into music and poetry - and this she does with aplomb.

And one thing she's learned while in the shell is to shut up and listen, and that's often its own reward.
