The queen waits and watches over us all.
The is a darkness and complexity flecking the watchful emotions now. Liorenth is drawn to it, embracing it wordlessly with mother. The night is dark, but you are there and we are here. Why is she like this? He picks up a very strong sense that someone needs to watch over the weyr and the dragons.
Who will watch? The answer comes quickly - Gwillanth will watch, Igith will watch. (why?)
He doesn't have a word for duty yet, just a sense of a thing that must be done -- is it though? Why must Igith watch? Why mother?
He tries again to grasp the thread -- //Duty is ... a thing that must be done by this person or that person. A duty to someone. A duty for someone to do something...// Whenever he gets close, the queen's thoughts shift. Why, mother?
Duty is a thing that must be done without needing to be told ...
Does an egg have a duty? (Why?) (What if you don't want to?)
Gwillanth shifts her perspective to the future, the far future. Liorenth cannot follow. I don't understand he sends. Why? It's too distant, too different. And where are we, where am I in this far future? Are we there too?
But when the night ends, he is left with the aching wish that someone might one day think about him the way Gwillanth thinks of the younger queen. He did his duty ... (whatever that was)
