2024-06-29 - the blue note, the scream queen

Rioth, she of the Big Voice, is a jazz clarinet, a gentle arpeggio of reedy emotion and persistent warmth.

Her timbre is mellow, honest and rich. There are no secrets, there is no duplicity. Her form is irregular, her emotions exuberant. The highs are peaks and the lows are valleys, and she is happy to dance between these points with effervescent ease.

Her speech patterns are pleasant, an ever-dancing glissando of good-hearted mischief, the odd note zagging where one expects it to zig; for now her words are mere notes, the capapbility for wicked jazz barely understood in these early days - but as she grows, the flickers will blossom into a full fantasia, a rhapsody in blue.

Frequently she attempts to emulate her mother, and what she thinks or hopes a queen should be.

For one must not mistake her warmth or forthright nature for weakness; a song can be clawed, it can snatch and bite and squeal and irritate. A clarinet can scream and be very good at it too. Perhaps one day it will rise and trumpet in command,

She cannot be Gwillanth, she understands this now, but she can envelop, protect and soothe others in her own way, her song warm and low and comforting, It is not what she felt in her earliest memories, but she feels it will do, for now.

She is still very small, after all...
