Miles had been learning all sorts of new things and had taken to collecting new words with an unparalleled eagerness. He liked words, liked the glimpses they gave him of things Outside. As his parents' words circled around him he considers the confusing sentence. High as in above things like in the flying dreams. He knew the word but the inflection gives it new meaning... Words could have multiple meaning? And these multiple meaning words can be used to convey...Humor?

He liked humor, it was almost as much fun as yelling.

These multiple meaning words could be arranged to mislead too, that wasn't as much fun. He didn't like misleading words, but knowing they could be used in such a way cemented his desire to learn as many as possible so they could never be used to trick him.
