2024-06-25 - Promises

Tasted Fire has grown significantly in the past few weeks.

Once it was nothing, a small insignificance in its bright shell. Now it rolled and twisted, both mentally and physically, trying new things out every waking second. Rarely would it sit still and listen, though its intense heat did diminish when not-Mothers came around and spoke to Mother.

It would often lose interest easily, swayed to some other form of entertainment, and would rarely find the time to understand the words spoken except when it felt that they were. What words were important and what words were not were given to it upon a whim.

Promise is a word the egg does not understand.

It hangs on the idea of ‘promise’ while Gwillanth returned to her duties and the one she bonded to left. The egg has heard the word before, and while it gleaned a lot from its surroundings, especially knowledge of words, this particular one is… different.

As was with most words, it juggles the word in its mind’s eye, heat focused on its task, for a great long while, perhaps longer than it had before. Finally it decides that promises are very important and it makes itself a promise. It promises it is going to hatch.
