They waited and watched the world around them, taking note of when the presence called Mother was there, and not there. They bided their time, taking note of when one side of them was warmer, then switched.
Then again, what else was there to do in this comfortable darkness but that?
Gradually all the little observations, the guesses and predictions, the patterns it could observe, all of it piled up until it hit critical mass and revelation hit them like a thunderbolt: they were not Mother. They were something separate from the warm soft darkness around them. In it, but not it at all.
Everything was turmoil; none of their previous ideas and observations made sense anymore. They were in equal measures scared, relieved, and curious about this new viewpoint and all its frightening implications for them and the future.
Eventually curiosity won out; what was this new word it was thrust into? Why did the temperatures change as they did, and where did the Mother-presence go when it disappeared?
And most importantly, how and what could they gain from this new reality?
