Trying to follow the patter of words is still confusing. Voices come into focus, are recognised, classified, sorted as known/ unknown. Tone is still difficult, emotions getting easier every day.
Nutshell enjoys the /sound/ and /shape/ of the words, rejoices in the wordplay without comprehending much of the detail. Sound, rhythm, response - it is a kind of music. Without understanding the puns, it plays quietly with words and enjoys the sound-alikes, making some up where it needs them.
It grows accustomed to father. Likes the laughter. Likes the soft voice that has emotion behind it. (Liked the angryNO more though, that was fun.)
Politeness as a concept remains a mystery. There is a pattern there, rulesmaybe? It does pick up on a power gradient, it matters who is polite to who. Everyone defers to mother, of course they do, what else would they do. Nutshell does not on principle approve of politeness - it is not as fun.
