There are many things Mother feels and thinks that It does not understand. Why would being close to another be wrong? Why would this apply to Mother but not others? These are concepts It tumbles in It's mind but a moment before setting them aside. Like the more complex powers of words, these can be mulled over in the nebulous future It knows is there but does not fully grasp, now there are things of more import.
Mother is yearning.
In the way of one too young for knowledge of the depth of feeling or the context, It understands.
Mother yearns for the Someone who is Away, and what does It know stronger than the yearning for others? The wish to have Mother and all the Someones with It at all times? The loneliness of poking at the points where It's mind seems to cut off like the edge of the world?
And the idea that a someone can go Away and not come back? Is too much for it's small being to register as anything more than a ringing echo of Mother's pain. It's sends off feelings of companionship, of care, of affection against the current, with words It does not yet fully know Mother does not understand.
"He will come back," It says, and pauses, tumbles words within It's mind. "I promise."
