It liked where it was.

It was nice. Warm. It was the perfect depth.

Why was it no longer there?

What did She do?

Why is that Other closer? Why are all of those Others closer?

Why is it so far away from that Other one?

(it still did not have a notion for numbers, nor a means of appropriately identifying its fellow stars in this sea of strangeness and, so, all are Other until they are not and it isn't sure if it will truly know when that moment will come)

Time finally clicked.

So, there was that.

What happened is in the past. The things of now have not completed. Suddenly, the concepts of space and time crystallized and it was not pleased that it took so long.

It was smarter than that.

It is smarter than that.

It occupies itself (here and now) with puzzling out what it is, for it has always known is is a thing within another thing and the irony that it would never see what that outside thing is is not lost on it.

It does like the taste of irony.

But what was it? What is it? What will it be? The notion of a future was too vast to fully grasp and it reeled, growing still to allow all of its energy to go to its mind.

Contemplating the nature of time became a fine distraction against the burgeoning frustration of its space - of a space it could not control. It could not control were it was. It cannot, in this moment, alter its placement. Will that change in the future? Surely it must. But could it be so sure? Did it have enough information?

Only later would it realize that its spite had burned away in favor of a ravenous need for knowledge.

Perhaps, in its way, spite had been transformed into a new tool. A different tool.

It is something powerful now.
