Fill

The Flamboyant Facets Foretell Fated Fortunes egg does not stand out amongst its brethren. Certainly, it is large, but only insofar as to be on the tail end of medium. Its placement is innocuous, and it is very easy for it to be lost against the rainbow backdrop of the others, and the sands themselves.

But it doesn’t seem to mind this.

The egg itself, hard now, is opaque without a hint of the dragonet within. When first laid, leathery and soft, there had been patches where the inner albumen could be seen. Some might have hoped these translucent spots would remain, to give a window to the life within, but alas it was not to be. The shell firmed, and with that firmness the translucence vanished. There remains only a slight dent to even mark that it had been there at all.

Color-wise, some may say it looks like the shore of an ocean. Yet the consensus instead likens it to an opal – facets of different hues bursting forth to play upon the shell. There is even a slight sheen to this – not a shine, but an iridescence. Of course, this could also just be a trick of the glowlight.

Finally, the Opal egg, even in its youngling stages of development, seems to be alert. Whether this is a trait of innate vigilance or paranoia is yet to be seen. To some, this may even bring a sense of dread – a forgotten remnant of an era long past on a planet many, many, many miles away, when opals were considered to be a stone of ill omen.
