Difference.

It’s one of the first things they notice besides the warmth and oneness. A presence that’s always there, is suddenly…not. Then it’s back again. Then not. They’re not sure at first what it means, only that it is. This…change baffles it. They have no way at this time to determine the whys and hows of this change, only that it does.

What does it mean? What should it mean, this changing of presence and not-presence. Is this something they can count on happening regularly, or is it a random occurrence? And can it be made…useful somehow to them?

They will wait, and watch, and see what the patterns might be here. And see if it’s something they can bend to its goals someday.

After all, they have all the time in the world.
