The shell of this medium egg, sitting in the sands at a jaunty but stable angle, has the shiny patina of waxed, well seasoned wood. The predominant color is a warm reddish-brown, shading to deepest shadows at the base and paler at the top. The solidity of the deep and opaque colour is deceptive, a close look reveals that this eggshell looks thinner than many of the others, and almost translucent at the tip. There are ridges and grooves further down, maybe a finger width apart, which almost resemble a face if viewed from the right angle.
The eggshell reflects the light and any movement in the cavern or the face of anyone who comes close, but there's something about the reflections that isn't quite true. Elongated and distorted, yes, but with details that imply hidden depths, whispered secrets, and shadows moving out of sight.
It would be so very easy to be drawn into interacting with this egg, watching the reflections and shadows move across the surface in response to movements from outside, that one could just forget ...
